Traditions and customs are a great thing because they make life special and reinforce that certain life events are specially appreciated. Next to the birth of your own children, the wedding is probably the most important event in the life of two lovers. It is therefore understandable that there are numerous traditions and customs around the wedding.

A custom that has been firmly established at numerous weddings for years is that of the bachelorette party. Even if it seems largely superseded by the bachelor party, the custom is particularly popular in rural areas.

The bachelorette party usually takes place a few days or even a few weeks before the wedding and is traditionally hosted by the bride's parents. Basically, it is a public event to which not only friends, relatives or acquaintances are invited, but also neighbors. However, this is at the discretion of the bride and groom.

Not only in Germany, but also in parts of Poland, guests bring old porcelain to the event, which is broken in front of the couple's eyes. The future bridal couple then sweeps the shards together. This traditional ritual is said to bring good luck and prosperity in marriage.
